SBK, Laverty champs at the bit: I want to race at Imola!

After sustaining injuries in Thailand, Eugene was expected to return at Donington Park: "but my strength and movement is already very good"

SBK: Laverty champs at the bit: I want to race at Imola!

It wasn't nice to see Eugene Laverty in pain on the ground after his crash in Thailand. The Irishman, riding for team Milwaukee, was transferred to a specialist clinic in Bangkok where, luckily, doctors ruled out permanent damage to the legs. After getting over an infection resulting from the injuries, Eugene has now started his rehabilitation.

A period that, at first, was looking as if it would continue until round six, where Eugene would have tried to ride at Donington, set to take place in late May, but his desire to ride is stronger than ever and:this Friday I'll meet with medical staff to check my progress so far - states the Aprilia rider - and I think, and hope to be able to ride sooner than we first thought”.

Before Donington means Imola, or rather next weekend.

Yes, I want to race at Imola! I really want to. The fractures are to my right leg and so I have some pain there of course, but my strength and range of movement are already very good, this is why I'm determined to come back as soon as possible”.

Have you carried out particular exercises to get back in shape so quickly?

“Sure, during my recovery I've carried out many small and repetitive exercises, all day long. I do them all day, until it gets boring. This is the best way to work if I want to get back to racing. As I've said, I want to race at Imola and am doing all I can to make that happen”.

With Laverty's return, the two RSV4 bikes are both back in the hands of their rightful owners; Lorenzo Savadori, having fractured his shoulder in Australia, is gradually making progress and hopes to start seeing results as of the very next Imola event.
