Cal Crutchlow began his career in the production-derived series and would like to end it in the same way: in SBK. He revealed this during an interview with Cycle World, in which he spoke about his future. The British rider had the satisfaction of leading the MotoGP championship between Argentina and Texas but is already considering his more distant future, and his plan to compete in the MotoAmerica championship.
"I’ve already said to the Honda US guys: make sure you build a factory Superbike team because I want to be in it. That’s a true story. That’s what I want to do - he states - I want to come and live in America and continue to race a motorbike. The tracks in the US are similar—dusty, hard, bumpy—to what I’m from, like Oulton Park and Cadwell Park."
So Cal is thinking about chasing the American dream and, as well as the national series, there's another race that particularly interests him: “the Daytona 200, I've always wanted to win it” he confesses.
He wouldn't be the first rider to be attracted by the series, organised by Wayne Rainey. Toni Elias won the SBK Moto America championship last year, while Italian Claudio Corti also raced in the Superstock class for a season.
“I love that kind of racing. I want to do that. I’ve won races in every championship, and my plan would be to win races in MotoAmerica" he concludes.
