Marc Marquez will not start from pole position in the Austin GP, even if he was the fastest one on the track. The decision was taken by Race Direction after investigating the world champion after he disturbed Maverick Viñales on a flying lap in qualifying. After hearing the two protagonists, the Steward Panel decided to penalise Marquez 3 positions on the starting grid: therefore, Marquez will start from the 4th spot, according to the official announcement.

This means that Viñales will start from pole position and moving up to the front row alongside Iannone will be Zarco. Marquez will be the first rider on the second row and he will have Rossi at his side.

The FIM Stewards also summoned Pol Espargaró after he slowed down Thomas Luthi in Q1.
