Just over ten days have passed since the Grand Prix of Argentina, but the events of Termas de Rio Hondo remain etched in the minds of the riders, so much that it was the central theme of the Thursday press conference. There was talk about Marquez’s conduct, as well as the limitations demonstrated by race direction and a possible change within it for the future.

The first to take the floor was Cal Crutchlow, who put a humorous spin on things: “At Rio Hondo I won the race, so I’m not the best person to complain about it – he joked – I can say that what happened and the tense atmosphere we are talking about did not condition me since I rode my race and once I was back home, it was life as normal. However, I do want to acknowledge Miller’s merits – he pointed out – he was brave, since I didn’t think he would make it to the grid with slicks (he joked) and I’m sorry that he wasn’t rewarded enough.”

The LCR rider then explained Marquez’s actions on the grid: In that case, a rider needs to leave the grid and be escorted to pit lane – he said – but things are not that simple in that moment, because everyone tries to do anything they can to stay on the grid with all the adrenaline flowing.

Johann Zarco also weighed in on the events of the South American round: “The race in Argentina was special – the Frenchman recalled – To be honest, I don’t know what we’ll talk about in Safety Commission, nor about changing the rules or not. I say this because in our sport, we need to analyse the actions of each individual rider and that means that the penalties are never the same. We certainly need to race the right way and at the same time accept the fact that this is a battle.”

Johann then shifts to the issue of Marquez and Rossi: “We are touching two MotoGP gods – one is Valentino and the other is Marc, who is becoming one – the Tech3 rider pointed out – If we remember what happened in Malaysia, it was a strange race where Vale kicked Marquez. On that occasion, Stoner said that Valentino deserved a black flag. In the end, a political position was taken, so much that his fourth place in Valencia was discounted at the last race. Marc and Vale definitely need to talk to one another, finding a solution together. Someone can tell us how to behave, but it’s up to us to do it. In race commission, they are certainly good people and each one of them will do their best.”

Also at the Safety Commission meeting will be Andrea Dovizioso: “I think there will be several ideas on the table – the Italian stated – so we’ll see what to talk about. I’m sure any situation can be improved – the Ducati rider noted – Maybe we won’t find something perfect, but we’ll work on it.” Besides the Borgo Panigale standard-bearer, Maverick Viñales will also be there: “It will be important to understand the situation and the limits – the Spaniard said – but above all to clarify the situation.” Also in agreement with Maverick’s position is Alex Rins: “I think we can always improve said the Suzuki rider – As for the last Grand Prix, on the other hand, I am convinced that race direction did their best.”
