MotoGP: Dovizioso: stay with Ducati? I don't have an offer yet

Dovizioso sits at the centre of the riders' table during the Thursday press conference that traditionally opens  Grand Prix weekend: it's the championship leader's seat and the Italian has earned it after his win in Qatar.

Andrea is enjoying his new position, in both the standings and in market negotiations because he can now play his game. Ducati wants to keep him (of course) and Dovi wants to play his cards calmly, knowing that he has an ace up his sleeve.

For this reason, when asked if he might leave the red team next year, he simply smiles and replies enigmatically: “I'll see what to do once I have an offer”.

Dovizioso doesn't want to reveal his cards, knowing that he has time on his side. With the Qatar race, he sent a clear message to Borgo Panigale: last year results were no fluke and right now, he is the anti-Marquez.

In fact, he underlines that “after a good championship like last season's, it was important to confirm my speed in the first race this year. Especially in the way I did it: I started badly, making up places and managing the race and finally winning the battle with Marc. I've had two good weeks, in which I've trained and relaxed”.

Dovi is on form and the GP18 also seems to have progressed but to be sure, they need a track at which they've suffered in the past, and Termas de Rio Hondo could be just the place.

There are some races in whcih we suffered last year - he refers to Argentina and Austin - and it will be important to see what our level is and that of our rivals too. As I said before the Qatar race, there are many riders with good bikes”.

Andrea is a rider who takes things one step at a time and so he's focusing on Argentina, a track that has left him with mixed memories.

I have a strange relationship with the track. The first year went badly, the second well and then I've had highs and lows. Anyway, I think the Desmosedici has improve and we will be more competitive. but it's difficult to say because the tyres have changed compared to last year, the asphalt is new, the weather looks unstable and we don't have much experience in the wet here. We need to wait and see tomorrow”.

His final comment regards Lorenzo's brake issue at Losail.

They explained that there was a problem and it's definitely something very dangerous in our sport, but I think Brembo has it all under control. Jorge wanted to use last year's material because he preferred it, we are always at the limit and it's not easy to manage every thing”, he concludes.
