The Buriram Sunday highlighted the qualities of Chaz Davies, finally on the top step of the podium in Thailand. However, there was no lack of frightening moments with Eugene Laverty being run over by Jordi Torres and his MV Agusta during the fifth lap. There is no video of the incident, just the reports made by our counterparts at Speedweek.

According to the German website, the Spaniard was unable to do anything to avoid the Aprilia rider: “On turn six, I saw Eugene crash – the Spaniard said – Unfortunately, instead of sliding to the outside, the bike came back on the track and I found Laverty right on my line. I was unable to do anything to avoid him, since he was just a few centimetres away. The dynamic is reminiscent of what happened in Sepang to Marco Simoncelli as Speedweek reported.

Initially, the Milwaukee rider remained still on the ground, without any feeling in his legs. Urgently transported to the medical centre, tests disproved the worst and the rider regained joint mobility. Medical staff therefore decided to transport Eugene to the Buriram hospital for further checks where a small pelvis fracture was found which is not weight-bearing when standing. Therefore, no surgery was required for Laverty.

Recuperation times are still unknown, since the next round for the factory derivatives is scheduled less than twenty days from now in Aragón, but in any case, the track can wait, because on Sunday he truly risked the worst.
