Pre-season testing is important as we know, and often as exciting as the championship races themselves.
For this reason, MotoAmerica is offering its fans free entry to the Barber Motorsports Park on 26 and 27 March, an oscillating track immersed in the green hills of Alabama, where fans can get a close up look at the work going on in the garages of the American category's top teams.
A relaxed but at the same time adrenaline-fuelled atmosphere: this Dunlop test will be important for the Anglo-Japanese tyre manufacturer and also for the riders of course. Having tested in Alabama, the MotoAmerica will then travel to Georgia, carrying out their final tests at Braselton before the series gets underway at Road Atlanta over the weekend of 13-15 April.
Toni Elias will be at Barber, spurred on by his recent title with the Suzuki GSX-R of team Yoshimura; the Spaniard is joined in the garage by Roger Lee Hayden, the younger brother of legend Nicky.
The Yamaha team fields Cameron Beaubier, two-time winner of the series, and a wildcard entry in WorldSBK, at Donington in 2016. Alongside the Californian rider are Garrett Gerloff – the Superstock title holder – and rookie Mathew Scholtz, who starred in the world 600 series several years ago. The Honda team lines up with Cameron Petersen, and the Supersport 600 teams will also be in attendance.
Teams spanning the five MotoAmerica classes will test: Superbike, Superstock 1000, Supersport, Twins Cup and Liqui Moly Junior Cup. On Sunday 25, the bikes and new graphics will be unveiled at the Avondale Brewing Company in Birmingham.
The great Wayne Rainey, MotoAmerica president, is excited: “The pre-season Dunlop test is closer and more similar to a race. The work on track will be important for teams and riders, both from a technical standpoint and also in terms of morale. It's important to be the fastest, to set the tone and boost confidence ahead of the season. The teams and their riders will do their best to do well, and we at MotoAmerica are pleased to offer the fans the chance to get a close up look at the riders and teams entered in the championship”.
