The final day of testing at Losail has brought a ray of light for Maverick Vinales, who is able to finish fifth, half a second from Johann Zarco's M1. A performance that gives the Spaniard confidence, but at the same time there are some difficulties. The sensations that the rider had one year ago with the Yamaha remain a distant memory.

Maverick, in fact, doesn't mince his words.

“If we were to race tomorrow I wouldn't be ready. The current bike setting doesn't suit my riding style any more and as a result I cannot fully express my potential.  I need to take a step forward".

The race is in two weeks' time, so it's better to focus on the present.

I'm quite confused after this test. In the end, we made an important change that allowed me to be quicker, going under 1’55”0. if I'd had more time available, I could have improved further”.

Vinales is unable to explain the performance of his bike over these three days.

“It's very strange, because I'm back to Thursday's sensations. unfortunately on day two we lost the way and I was unable to push, I was disappointed. We wasted a lot of time, while today I was competitive again . I'm quite pleased, but I have to do more".

The Yamaha rider doesn't plan to give up.

“We've tested many things during these tests. It's a strange situation because it takes just a little to be competitive but also just a little to struggle as we did yesterday. I know that if I'm 100% I can be fast, but right now I'm missing something and I don't know how to get it out of the bike”.
