Andrea Iannone enjoys his final days of vacation as he'll soon be back on the Suzuki for the traditional Sepang tests. Before getting down to work in Malaysia,  The Maniac has carried out an interview with Riders magazine, scoring the front cover of the first 2018 issue.

He covers a range of topics during the interview, particularly the difficult move from Ducati to Suzuki: It wasn't easy to accept the situation I found myself in after the last two years in MotoGP – recalls the Italian - from being a factory Ducati rider, always up front, to finding myself eighteenth was unexpected, I wasn't prepared, it really came as a tough blow... There were days I couldn't even talk, I thought only about this, everything was black”.

The adventure with Suzuki has been an uphill climb but he's never considered giving up: “I'm 28, I can wake up in the morning and do whatever I like, whether that's buying myself a car, or a bike, or disappearing without saying anything to anyone. So what reason do I have to be unhappy or sad, for what? What right do I have to complain? I kept telling myself that I had to continue and give it everything, despite the difficulties.”

In Andrea's mind, there is only ever one goal: “I want to win. I've learned to be more patient, more realistic, but the goal remains the same. I want to win, that's the only thing that counts”. And if he isn't able to do so: “No-one has ever gifted me anything – emphasises The Maniac -I've always done things on my own, without contacts, back-up and I've always shaken things up. In minibikes, then in 125, in Moto2 and in Ducati. Everything I've earned has been down to my strength. So if I think about it, I've already won in life.” This is why nothing scares him: “It's always worth fighting for what you want in life, and for me there are no limits. A head without limits can take you anywhere”.
