It was a three-day uphill battle for Andrea Iannone at Phillip Island. On the last day of tests, The Maniac had to contend with Alex Rins, who even managed to finish ahead of him. There is, however, a reason why the rider from Vasto was so far behind in the standings.

“We are well aware that there is still much work to do, but step by step we are figuring out which direction to go. I think that I did a positive long run today, where we were able to put together all the data gathered over these past few days.”

How do you explain your distance behind the leaders?

“Unfortunately, I was not able to use the tyre to do a good time at the end. That is why we are not so far up in the standings.”

Is the electronics package the main aspect that needs to be solved?

“In general we are working in this area, but also on other components. There are various areas where we are struggling and in the tests the goal is to solve those problems. Only after the Qatar race will we see where we stand.”

You introduced a new fairing. What are your sensations? Also, why did you opt for the long run at the end?

“We do not have much information on the two fairings since they are quite similar. We are trying to do as many tests as possible, but I am rather satisfied. The long run today was more useful than flying laps because I will need it throughout the entire season.”

In Malaysia did you feel more competitive?

“I had good race pace in Sepang as well; I need to continue working. Sometimes though, like today, you need to be more of a tester than a motorcycle race rider.”

What are your expectations as you head to Qatar?

“I hope to turn up with good confidence, trying to do as well as possible.”
