MotoGP: Tito Rabat to miss the Phillip Island tests

Tito Rabat will not be at Phillip Island for the three days of tests that will begin tomorrow. The Marc VDS rider suffered a distan fracture of the radius and the fifth metacarpal in the right hand in Sepang, as well as a fracture to the distal phalanx in the right foot.

However, the biggest problem is the severe laceration to the left knee. Surgeons were able to close the wound, but, despite undergoing a rigorous program of physiotherapy, Tito has not recovered sufficient mobility in the joint to return to action on his Honda.

Therefore, the goal is to continue recovery in order to be at full fitness for the Qatar tests that will begin on 10 March.

Tito has worked hard to be fit for the Phillip Island test - explains team principal Michael Bartholemy - The fractures have healed nicely, but the knee injury is a different story altogether. Despite intensive physiotherapy he still doesn't have the necessary extension in the joint and he risks popping the stitches – with the associated danger of infection. We made the decision together with Tito to give him more time to recover ahead of the Qatar test, rather than risking everything for little gain by having him ride injured in Australia. This is the right decision for him and for the team.
