SBK: Lowes and van der Mark, special challenge with Yamaha

There were more than fifty riders at Gerno di Lesmo on the day when Yamaha raised the curtain on the 2017 season. Much of the anticipation was without a doubt for the presentation of the Superbike team, half revamped. On one hand, Alex Lowes was confirmed, whereas on the other, new entry Michael van der Mark took the place of Sylvain Guintoli, who moved over to BSB.

Welcoming the riders onto the stage was none other than Andrea Dosoli. There is a long road ahead and the goal is definitely to close the gap behind the front runners in the category during this second year since the return to the factory derivative championship. Van der Mark is well aware of this, but they are on the right path. “We are growing and the recent results showed that – the Dutchman commented – the bike has taken several steps forward in terms of grip and cornering, but we must not stop.”

Alongside him is Alex Lowes: “We are a new team and there is no lack of determination – the Brit revealed – in these first tests of the new year I found the right confidence straight away, despite the fact that there is still a lot of work to do. I can’t wait to get to Australia in ten days.”

There is no news in terms of the 2017 livery, quite similar to last season’s. There is just a touch more white on the top fairing compared with the previous version.
