MotoGP, Zarco: "At Sepang I had a goal and I achieved it"

The Frenchman: "I was with the best again", Folger: "I worked on pace and I am more than satisfied"

MotoGP: Zarco:

He has become a fixture in the top ten and he was there again on the final day of testing. It was tenth place at the end of the day at Sepang for Johann Zarco, improving consistently on his Yamaha Tech3. The French rider left home with a clear goal in mind and in the end he succeeded in achieving it.

“Let’s just say that I am enthusiastic about what was achieved over these three days. In the morning I tried to lower my times and then in the afternoon I did a race simulation, although I was not able to finish it the way I had wanted to.”

How much of an effect did the tyres have?

“With used tyres I didn’t want to push too close to the limit because I wanted to avoid taking pointless risks, but in the end, with the new ones, I dropped below the two-minute mark.”

You had a very clear goal in mind.

Yes, I did. It was to do 1’59 like the best and I succeeded. Now we will go to Australia where I will be very motivated.”

On this first outing of 2017, his teammate Jonas Folger also finished with passing marks. On the final day, the German put the stopwatch to one side, working primarily on pace.

“I did a race simulation, focusing mainly on the tyres. I must say that I was more than satisfied because the times were good, despite the tyre wear.”

What is the most encouraging aspect for you?

“I am enthusiastic because I learned a lot of things, particularly in terms of engine mapping and the way various components work. We have a lot of data available that will come in handy for Phillip Island.”
