The former MotoGP runner-up will assist the HRC rider this year

Sete Gibernau 'coach' to Dani Pedrosa

They were once team-mates, albeit it on different bikes. It was 2004 and the Spanish pair was starring in MotoGP and 250.

A pair that has come back together at Sepang, with Valentino Rossi's former rival taking on the role of coach to Dani. Though he prefers to think of himself as a friend.

Gibernau, 44, joins an increasing number of former riders that include Wilco Zeelemberg (now with Vinales) and Luca Cadalora (Rossi).

Sete raced for Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Ducati and was championship runner-up with Honda in 2003 and 2004 when he 'inherited' Daijiro Kato's factory bike. He competed in the reigning class from 1997 to 2009, scoring 9 wins, 30 podiums and 13 pole positions.
