Their first competition of 2017 was on scooters. Yes, you read correctly! While waiting to fly to Sepang for the first test of the season,  Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales faced off in a head to head on the Yamaha Sniper 150 in the Phillipines. It certainly was not the traditional race weekend atmosphere, but the two riders still wanted to cut a fine figure. The Doctor, however, was unlucky, because two laps from the finish, he ended up on the ground in a right-hander.

It was a crash with no consequences for the nine-time champion, who got up straight away and remounted his scooter to finish the race. From tomorrow, Rossi and Viñales will be on the track once again in Sepang, but this time astride their M1 machines. The Yamaha is returning to the Malaysian track after the test held there in late November. That was an event that gave the Japanese team a great boost of confidence after the questions that had come out in the two Valencia outings.
