Chaz Davies was in Jerez all set to continue with preparations ahead of the 2018 season. However, his plans went up in smoke before day one had even concluded, when he was involved in a serious crash.

An MRI has shown a sprain of the medial collateral and anterior cruciate ligaments of the right knee, coupled with a contusion, as well as a contusion in the left wrist. Enough for him to wave the white flag: "Unfortunately, a crash on day one has prevented us from continuing with our programme. Now I’ll rest for a few days to reduce the inflammation, and next week I’ll visit a physiotherapist to devise a recovery plan. It’s the first time I've injured my knee, so we just need to be patient and hopefully we’ll be good to go in a few weeks’ time.”.

It is therefore down to Marco Melandri to continue with the work on board the Aruba Ducati. The three-day test will conclude tomorrow at 6pm local time.
