SBK: Savadori: In Aprilia to obtain significant results and... the MotoGP

He struggled at the start of the season but results picked up race by race: Lorenzo Savadori looks back on his second complete Superbike season, in which he rode the the Aprilia of British team Milwaukee: “the first part of the season was tough -admits Lorenzo- I was facing new situations with a new team; in the first part of the championship we struggled, it's true, but it was useful for me and the team, ebcause we learned a great deal. From mid-season on, we grew and were fast, particularly in the final rounds”.

What prevented you from reaching the podium?

I think this has been a positive season, considering the level of our rivals. I missed out on the podium, but by very little: I could have done it at Magny-Cours but then i had a problem. In other races, I was up there and, with a little more like, the podium would have been achievable”.

Starting further back in race 2 didn't exactly help…

“It's true, because the inverted grid for race 2 caused everyone problems, except Rea. I was at a disadvantage in some situations - after a good qualifying, or a race where I had a problem, I was forced to start further back in race two. I think that they need to look elsewhere in order to level the championship”.

The new regulation will "hobble” whoever wins, and the best team needs to sell parts to the private teams…

"These are changes designed to level out performance between one bike and another; we'll have to wait and see how the first races go in order to understand whether it's a good idea or not. We'll see”.

Is Rea really stronger than everyone else?

Well, yes. Johnny has one three consecutive world titles, dominating. He is always strong, he's in shape, he works well with team Provec and the results are clear to see. Rea has everything he needs to win, from the team to the bike”.

Looking to 2018, have you asked Aprilia for more help?

“Yes, because both I and Aprilia are very ambitious, I want to get back to the front, and so do they. In 2018 I will continue with Aprilia, we're ironing out the details and the team I'll race with. The manufacturer has really helped me and the Milwaukee team, the aim is to obtain significant results".

You also tested the MotoGP at Misano, is that still on your mind?

"I'm totally focused on doing well with the RSV4 in Superbike right now but... yes, MotoGP remains my life-long dream".
