MotoGP, Morbidelli: so exciting to ride with Rossi and Marquez!

MotoGP: Morbidelli: so exciting to ride with Rossi and Marquez!

Yesterday Franco Morbidelli seemed rather too laid back after making his MotoGP debut. Today he appears more pumped up about it all, with the excitement clear in his words. Also because 'il Morbido' is making progress, shaving one second of yesterday's time as he starts to understand the world into which he's been catapulted.

The biggest excitement? Completing a few laps behind Valentino and Marquez - he says - They are two great champions and so to be on track with them, riding a MotoGP, is no small thing. I tried to learn as much as possible during those laps”.

You've already taken a good step forward…
It was important to improve, in fact it will be fundamental to improve every time I ride this bike. Next week we'll be at Jerez for a further two days and I have to continue along this path. I didn't expect to make so much progress”.

The day began with a crash.
I was a little too excited, temperatures were still low and so I crashed. The good thing about MotoGP is that you go back to the garage and there's a second bike ready  (he laughs). I went back out and was immediately able to improve on yesterday's time”.

Did the team manage to find more power?
Yes, we went in that direction because to be fast you need to have horsepower and it's important for the rider to be controlling that, rather than the electronics.  Then I started to understand the tyres, how to exploit them”.

What are you focusing on right now?
I'm starting to get to grips with the bike and how it works, but I need to work particularly on my riding style. I'm no longer in Moto2, I have to modify my style, that's the main thing”.

Do you leave Valencia pleased?
Setting a 1”7 isn't a bad start, I'm having fun and working well with the team. What am I thinking about now? The next step I have to take..."
