After qualifiers as a protagonist -front row snagged thanks to the third place time- and warlike statements in pre-race interviews, the Valencia Grand Prix had Andrea Iannone finishing sixth astride his Suzuki GSX-RR behind teammate Alex Rins and Valentino Rossi on his Yamaha M1.

The team Ecstar rider expressed his satisfaction with today’s result: “We arrived just 14 seconds behind the winner. I am satisfied - Andrea said - We knew that it would be a difficult race after outstanding qualifiers. The front row raised expectations, but on the team we all kept our feet planted firmly on the ground.”

What limited your performance?

We know our limitations: in the race, with higher temperatures and the rubber left on the track from the Moto2 bikes, we struggle. In fact, I had trouble with the front because I wasn’t able to brake well and take full advantage of the bike. I tried to stay with the leaders, but my pace was two or three tenths slower. I risked every lap and I made some mistakes, but in the end I brought the result home, because what we are concerned with now is the gap behind the winner.”

Now you turn the page…

First of all, I am very pleased with the way we finished this championship. We reacted well and we got very close to the leaders. From tomorrow we will have a new bike so we are optimistic and we’ll discover it in the next important tests in view of the 2018 season. Our work does not end here. We will certainly improve.”

Do you think that the best rider won the championship on a very competitive bike?

I think that Ducati and Honda are on the same competitive level in this season. Marquez is a really strong rider. He always manages to do something extra and in the end he won this title too.”
