MotoGP, Pirro: Tomorrow we need to believe in miracles

The Italian jokes about race strategy: "I'll bring my gun and shoot out Marc's tyre. I did not expect Dovizioso to have so much trouble"

MotoGP: Pirro: Tomorrow we need to believe in miracles

The fact that Michele Pirro is a brilliant tester is no longer news to anyone and the rider – policeman reiterated the concept at Valencia too. In fact, the sixth place he earned is an important result that also arrived in the best way.

“I did the time by myself - explains number 51 - since the strategy between Jorge and me was that he would stay ahead for the first run, whereas I would stay ahead in the second. Unfortunately, on the second run (so with the second tyre), Jorge crashed, whereas I did an excellent lap and improved my time. It’s a pity for him because he had the potential to be on the front row.”

However, Michele also has another concern.

I’m sorry that Andrea did not find the right confidence and he will be starting ninth. We knew that Marc was fast and consistent; what we did not expect was that Dovi would struggle so much. MotoGP is so extreme that it takes very little to head down a wrong path and maybe for just two tenths, you find yourself even five positions behind.”

As for tomorrow, anything can happen, and Pirro doesn’t mince words.

“I do a race every three months, so it is hard to do everything to perfection, although I obviously do my best. I also don’t know what Jorge will be able to do and especially if Dovi will have the speed to stay ahead and win. I come from Padre Pio’s town and I know that you need to believe in miracles, so until tomorrow at 3 PM we will keep hoping.”

One of the topics today has to be the strategy to adopt tomorrow, and it is one that Michele jokes about.

“Since I am a policeman I have a gun, so tomorrow I’ll race with my holster and at the right moment I’ll shoot out his tyre (he laughs).
