MotoGP: Marquez: "Tomorrow I'll race with four eyes"

Marc Marquez has taken care of everything down to the smallest detail for the assault on his sixth world title. Right now, the Spaniard has proven to be unrivalled in terms of race pace, plus the pole was the cherry on top at the end of a textbook Saturday. Things could not have gone better, despite his second crash of the weekend.

I am very happy about pole position number 73, which is also my brother’s number – number 93 began – I showed that I have a competitive pace and the conditions tomorrow are the best. Up to now I have tackled the weekend with the same mentality as always – he stated – In the race, I will need to adapt to the various situations.”

With the crash in the afternoon, Marquez is now at 27.

“It’s a pity about what happened in qualifying – the Spaniard said – I was very angry with myself since I had spoken with Santi Hernandez [(crew chief)], telling him that I felt poor grip at the rear on turn four. I tried to push harder than I should have and I ended up on the ground.”

In any case, Marc has some clear ideas for Sunday.

I’ll start with the hard tyre – the five-time world champion revealed – I think it is the best choice for the 30 laps. In terms of tyres, I had good feedback – he continued – Even if tomorrow it will be fundamental to be careful in the early laps, where it is usually stiffer and tighter.”

Marquez-Zarco-Iannone, a pulse-pounding front row.

“With us three it’s dangerous – Marc admitted with a smile – On the first corner anything could happen, so I’ll need to manage the race in a different way than usual since Johann is a fighter, as is Andrea.”

With the final challenge just hours away, the Honda rider sets the pressure aside.

“Maybe it will take a half hour longer to get to sleep tonight – he said – Anyway, I would be more nervous if it was Dovi starting from pole position.

Dovizioso is called on to carry out an undertaking which, in some ways, is reminiscent of Lorenzo’s in 2013. In the race, the Spaniard even tried to slow his pace in order to make the group more compact.

I think that on that occasion, Jorge was the fastest, whereas at the moment Dovi is not so competitive – Marquez analysed – so I don’t think it will be possible to repeat a race like that. Tomorrow I’ll race with four eyes – he concluded – maybe trying to let some of the more treacherous riders overtake.”
