Their paths crossed on the Milan streets. Dovizioso was heading for the Ciak theatre, Marquez to offices in via Mecenate, where Honda unveiled its latest products. On Sunday, Andrea and Marc will be racing along the same path, one that leads to the championship title.
The Honda rider is ready for the final battle against the Italian: “This the third time I'm fighting for the title in the last race - he points out – compared to 2013, I have more points but can't afford to underestimate anyone. I can't wait to get out on track, this is the most important race of the season”. Marc's mind is also on next season: “In 2018, the aim is to be competitive right from the start, trying to remain at the same level and have the right confidence”. His team-mate Pedrosa was also on stage: “The last race is definitely important and we must be strong– said Dani– with Tuesday's test we'll already be in 2018, a year in which our aim is to fight for the win and be on the podium in every race”.
As well as the two factory riders, also in attendance was Cal Crutchlow, who showed his support for the Cervera rider: “The season's not yet over– said the LCR rider - I hope Marc manages to win the title, while I will do my best, as I always do”. The Milanese evening provided an opportunity to admire the Japanese manufacturer's latest models, among which the CB1000R, unveiled by a certain Mick Doohan. The Australian also touched on the current championship: “Marc is a young rider who has shown real growth, he'll win more than me, he doesn't need my advice”.
As it awaits the final showdown, Honda achieves a significant milestone this year, or rather 100 million bikes sold between 1956 and today. Constant growth for the Japanese company that has no intention of setting itself any limits.
The manufacturer also took the opportunity to acknowledge the commitment of its riders across other championships. As well as the MotoGP team, there was the team that competed in the Dakar with Joan Barreda, Paulo Goncalves and Metge, ready for a comeback in 2018 after the disappointment of the last South American edition. And then HRC's MXGP riders, who will do all they can to beat Tony Cairoli during the next championship.
