MotoGP, Regret for Petrucci: "Today I could have been on the podium"

The Italian's face betrays his anger: "I don't know what happened. These things always happen to me and this is the fourth time I've had problems with the bike"

MotoGP: Regret for Petrucci: "Today I could have been on the podium"

There is definitely reason to feel frustrated. Indeed, because Danilo Petrucci’s sixth place at Sepang, after starting from pit-lane, leaves no small bitter taste. First and foremost for the Italian rider and then for Ducati, who probably would have seen the Pramac rider battling for the lead.

Just before the start, the Italian had to deal with a technical problem that forced him to return to the garage and start at the back of the group.

I don’t know exactly what happened – Danilo commented – I am really very disappointed, because these things always happen to my bike and this is the fourth time in this 2017 season that it has happened.”

Once on the track, Petrucci unloaded, but it wasn’t all that simple.

I was able to start well – he recalled – even gaining ten positions on the first corners. But unfortunately I felt some serious instability at the rear from the first lap – he pointed out – I thought something had happened. In the end I had to manage the situation and bring home this sixth place.”

There is great regret.

I am very disappointed because, as I said, this is the fourth time something like this has happened to me. I could have finished on the podium today.

The Pramac camp also has to reckon with the thirteenth place by Scott Redding:  “I started well with the soft tyre since I didn’t have the right confidence with the medium – he commented – I felt good in the wet, but then the tyre began to wear. I lost too many seconds and I struggled.”
