Jorge Lorenzo has said that Malaysia would be a very different story with respect to Australia. In the morning, the Spaniard closed top ten, while in the afternoon only Dovizioso and Marquez did better than him. His two rivals are not too far off either.

“Unfortunately we didn't have much dry track time – starts #99 - as rain conditioned the day. in the wet we were able to collect some data anyway, particularly in terms of rear grip, which wasn't the best. As a result, we changed set-up, but in terms of pace I can stick with the fastest guys”.

Marquez and Dovizioso seem to have an extra gear.

“Marc and Andrea have great pace –  admits #99 - but we can improve, especially through some corners where Dovizioso is very competitive”.

Lorenzo remains optimistic, setting his sights on the leading pair.

The bike is competitive in the wet and this is positive as the race might play out in similar conditions. We need to see how the GP17 behaves in the dry though. Marc is definitely quick in any condition, him and the Honda are proving to be quick again here. Pedrosa seems to be suffering due to the lack of grip”.

The Majorcan also refers to using the new fairing in the dry. Compared to Dovizioso and Petrucci's bikes, the GP17 of #99 is the slowest.

Today I wanted to test the normal fairing in the dry, then we'll see how it is in the wet tomorrow. It's important to have time to understand the sensations and work, at the same time, on the front and on corner entry”.
