MotoGP: Fractured metacarpus for Espargaró: I'll be in Malaysia

Another encouraging weekend, but one that ended badly. This is how Aprilia’s Australian weekend can be summed up, with Aleix Espargaró ending up in the gravel during the eighth lap. “The race was going well – the number 41 rider recounts – and despite a less than perfect start, I had already rejoined the leading group and I had a good feeling. Unfortunately, as I was overtaking Miller on the first turn, I went a bit too wide, ending up on the dirty part of the track and sliding out.”

It was a bitter and mocking crash, given the consequences. In fact, Aleix injured the fourth metacarpus of his left hand, but this does not seem to compromise his participation in Malaysia.

“I should be able to participate in the race in Malaysia even with the injury – Aleix confirms – but we’ll see what the conditions are on Friday.”

The only RS-GP to cross the finish line was Sam Lowes’, taking home 19th place.

“Obviously you always hope for a better result but, given the conditions, I’m rather satisfied. I overtook a few riders in the race and I didn’t make any mistakes throughout the weekend. Overall we are working well and it was a shame about Aleix’s crash.”
