Iannone had chosen the path of consistency in view of Phillip Island and the first day did not disappoint the Suzuki rider’s expectations, finishing with a seventh place time that makes the Italian semi-confident. Indeed, because The Maniac does not seem to be fully satisfied with his Friday.
“I think we had a good start, although I am not happy – number 29 began – There are a few aspects that are penalising us and I have been saying so since Valencia last year. Unfortunately, we have been unable to take big steps forward – he added – This will be an aspect that I’ll need to discuss with the team.”
Andrea is clearly disappointed. He wonders if all of this might depend on the development of the bike.
“In general, you always do development during the season – he reminded – so we will need to see how to proceed.”
The Suzuki rider is already thinking about Saturday and the race on Sunday, in which he will hopefully be among the leaders.
“It depends on what we are able to improve – he warned – In other words, whether or not we are able to be consistent with the rear tyre, but also with the electronics. The latter is the thing that bothers me the most, since it keeps us from managing the problems we have in the best possible way.”
The track conditions do seem to satisfy him though.
“I must say that I felt better in the morning than in the afternoon.”
His last comment is on the exchange with Marc in pit lane, where The Maniac touched the Spaniard’s arm to say thanks for letting him use his slipstream for a few laps.
“He and I are friends – he concluded with a smile – I was going through pit lane, so I touched him.”
