MotoGP, Lorenzo: I'm not yet exploiting my strengths with Ducati

MotoGP: Lorenzo: I'm not yet exploiting my strengths with Ducati

Jorge Lorenzo has his sights set on the same goal in Australia, or rather to score his first win with Ducati. The Majorcan has only ever won on one occasion at Phillip Island and it won't be easy to jostle for space between Andrea Dovizioso and Marc Marquez.

“I arrive here feeling confident and with the aim of winning– states #99 – I really like the track, it's fast and you can even wheelie at the last turn. This is a very different track to Motegi or Sepang, you need to set up the bike perfectly, if you don't it gets complicated”.

Then there is the age old question of team orders.

“It depends on the race and my chances  - explains #99 – to give Dovi a hand means I need to be fast than him and Marc and that definitely won't be easy”.

Jorge then looks back at the last race at the Twin Ring.

When I think less about the bike I'm able to ride more naturally - reveals the Majorcan – At Motegi, after making some passes, i was too focused on certain aspects. I'm sorry, also because I'm not able to exploit my strengths right now”.

There is one interesting thing here. We are used to seeing Lorenzo make a quick getaway off the line, as he used to do with the Yamaha, but it's a different story with the Ducati. We wonder whether it has to do with the tyres.

In Austria I was able to be quite competitive – he recalls - but I consumed the tyre more, unlike Misano. I think that if you can manage the rear well, then performance is not affected”.

Back to the title fight. The Majorcan is convinced that Dovi and Marquez won't alter their strategy in these final races.

If Marc were to change his way of riding, he wouldn't be the rider we all know. I'm sure that both will race as they've always done, Andrea relying on his consistency and Marc on his own particular characteristics”.

His final words regards the difficulties Yamaha has been having in the second part of the season. Some say that the departure of #99 has weighed heavily.

“It's difficult to judge from outside -  said #99 - both Valentino and I are very sensitive, I don't know Vinales but I can say he's a very hard-worker. The Yamaha situation is none of my business of course. When I chat with team members we never talk about the bike”
