The classic Friday crash for Marc Marquez was not lacking today. Not a slide like he has shown us on several occasions, but a highside toward the end of FP2. Despite the problem, the Spaniard demonstrated great competitiveness in the wet, filing the day away with the second place time just 23 thousandths behind Dovizioso’s Ducati.

I am very happy about this Friday because I felt the right confidence straight away - Marc began - a pity about the crash. I was lapping rather well and then I changed the tyres and I lost that feeling that I had - he revealed - In MotoGP you don’t see highsides often and that means that we need to work on the electronics to improve them for Sunday.

Marc knows that this time the challenge is very well balanced.

The pace is encouraging. In fact, I was able to adapt to the conditions straight away. In any case, Dovi is close and he also demonstrated a good level.”

The number 93 Honda rider then talks about any possible team orders in view of the season finale and he does so without beating around the bush.

“In this Championship I do not want any type of help - he specified - The outcome of the Championship depends only on me.”

He also makes a remark about the disc brakes, thanks to which he won the Misano round. He was the first rider to succeed in the undertaking.

Tech3 used them before anyone else and then I tried them last year in Malaysia - he recalled - I must say that they give me confidence.”

Getting back to practice, Marquez has no doubts as to who the favourite is.

If we were to race tomorrow in the wet, Lorenzo would win - Marc concluded - He is the rider who has the least to lose right now.”

While Marquez shines with the second place time, the opposite is true for Dani Pedrosa, only eighth at the end of the day behind Iannone and with a gap of nearly nine tenths behind the leader.

“Unfortunately, I ran into some difficulties with the rain tyre - he explained - so I need to push harder than expected. Compared to the Ducati, I am unable to be as fast as the GP17 - he added - I hope to be more confident being able to use the second soft tyre.”

So the tyres are not helping number 26.

“Unfortunately, with only two soft tyres available, everything becomes more difficult - he pointed out - so you have to save one at the expense of the other. We will need to talk about this issue with the Safety Commission. I think that three is the right number or at least a minimum.”

Unlike Marquez, Dani prefers not to use carbon brakes.

Changing would make me lose the sensations I’m used to - he concluded - Plus, here there are too many braking sections, among other things having other material available to test.”
