The world championship has reached Motegi, ready for the October triple-header. The first round takes places at the Twin Ring, this coming weekend. Here are all the stats on the Japanese event.

- This year sees the Japanese GP taking place at Motegi for the nineteenth time.

- Honda has won in MotoGP on seven occasions at the Twin Ring, between 2002 and today. The latest were Pedrosa's win in 2015 and Marquez's in 2016.

- Four wins for Yamaha, the last in 2014 with Jorge Lorenzo. Last year none of the Yamaha riders reached the line. Something that had also occurred in 2011 in Australia with Spies and Lorenzo.

-  Four Twin Ring victories for Ducati too. The last back in 2010 with Casey Stoner. After that, the red bike had to wait six years before returning to the podium in Japan. Andrea Dovizioso saw to it, second in 2016 behind Marquez.

- Only one MotoGP podium for Suzuki in Japan. Thanks to Maverick Vinales, third last year behind Marquez and Dovizioso. In 1999 Kenny Roberts won the first GP to take place at the Twin Ring with Suzuki, in the 500 class.

- In 2016 Vinales and Aleix Espargarò finished third and fourth on the Suzuki. Not since Misano 2007 had two Suzukis finished top five.

- Pedrosa is the most successful rider at Motegi having won 5 times (3 x MotoGP™, 1 x 250cc, 1 x 125cc). Three wins each for Loris Capirossi (3 x MotoGP™), Toni Elias (2 x 250cc, 1 x Moto2™), Mika Kallio (2 x 125cc, 1 x 250cc), Jorge Lorenzo (3 x MotoGP™) and Marc Marquez (1 x 125cc, 1 x Moto2™, 1 x MotoGP™).

- Eight Motegi wins for local riders, in order: Masao Azuma – 125cc/1999, Shinya Nakano – 250cc/1999, Daijiro Kato – 250cc/2000,Youichi Ui – 125cc/2001, Tetsuya Harada – 250cc/2001, Makoto Tamada – MotoGP™/2004 & Hiroshi Aoyama – 250cc in 2005 and 2006.

- Hiroshi Aoyama was the last Japanese rider to reach the Motegi podium - in 2009 in 250.

- In the last six editions of the Japanese GP, six different riders have won the Moto2 race: 2010 – Toni Elias, 2011 – Andrea Iannone, 2012 – Marc Marquez, 2013 – Pol Espargaro, 2014 & 2016 – Tom Luthi, 2015 – Johann Zarco.

- In Moto3, four different riders have won over the last five years: 2012 – Danny Kent, 2013 & 2014 – Alex Marquez, 2015 – Nicolo Antonelli, 2016 – Enea Bastianini.
