Moto2: MV Agusta to enter Moto2 in 2018 with team Forward

It was in 1976, on 29 August to be precise, when MV Agusta won its last race in the world championship. It did so at the Nurburgring with the rider who proved to be the brand's most famous ambassador, Giacomo Agostini. The Italian manufacturer then left the racing world, before returning to the production-derived series under Castiglioni management.

Why the potted history? Because rumour has it that MV has decided to return to the world championship next year, to Moto2 in fact. Next season will see the Italian manufacturer lining up on the grid, thanks to a project already in development and a partner that has a long history in the championship.

Remember the special livery Team Forward presented at the Misano GP? Its colours were inspired by Cascina Costa's bike back in the golden age and, though no-one realised it at the time, this was an important clue as to what the future would soon bring.

The two Giovannis, Castiglioni and Cuzari, are in fact close to making an agreement that would see MV Agusta return to the championship. Team Forward wouldn't just bring the Italian bikes to the track but would also be directly involved in development, working side by side with the Racing Department.

To understand what this return means, just consider how, between 1952 and 1967, the Italian manufacturer won 37 manufacturers' titles, 38 riders' titles and 275 races across the 125, 250, 350 and 500 classes.

In 2013 MV returned to World Superbike, where it is still present now with Leon Camier, and in Supersport, a category in which it won with Jules Cluzel in 2014.

A new adventure is now on the horizon, and we cannot wait to write about it.
