MotoGP: Pedrosa: I had the pace to win

Perhaps if the Aragón race had lasted just a few more laps, we would have seen a family feud between Marquez and Pedrosa for the win. Dani was not a missile at the start but, as often is the case, he improved his pace lap after lap until catching up to his teammate.

It was one of my best races of the year - the Spaniard says - To be honest, the entire weekend went well. The worst time was in qualifying. Today I had the right pace to win. Unfortunately, I did not start well and a small gap was created straight away behind the lead group.”

The situation did not discourage Dani, who had to fight to recover positions.

Everyone had different tyres and it was not an easy race to read - he explains - I found myself behind Viñales who was very strong in the braking sections and made no mistakes. I waited too long to overtake him, trying to save my tyres and maybe I made a mistake in strategy, because when I had open track ahead of me I was much faster straight away and I was able to catch up quickly.

Along his way he found Valentino and overtaking him was not simple.

I came up beside him and he came very close to me - he recounts - Our handgrips almost touched and it was dangerous because at that point we were doing more than 300 kph. We risked a lot. Fortunately I came around him fast and I was quick to get out of … that sandwich.”

In any case, Pedrosa complimented Rossi.

His recovery was incredible, although I know from experience that every injury has different recovery times. He surprised me. His determination was incredible.”
