MotoGP, Dovizioso: In the race anything can happen

Andrea 7th in qualifying: "Not enough time to sort the bike and assess the tyres. Valentino? I didn't expect him to be so fast"

MotoGP: Dovizioso: In the race anything can happen

The third row is not the result Andrea Dovizioso was aiming for at Aragón, but that is where he will start from tomorrow. In spite of it all, the Italian is looking at the bright side, well aware that after the two sessions lost because of the rain yesterday, everything is still up in the air.

I imagined that it would be a tough day and it was - he comments - Usually four sessions are not enough to finish all the work we need to do and this time we had to condense everything into barely two. We had to do everything together, testing tyres and setup, without being able to focus on the details, as usual.

The lack of time could be felt when Dovi had to get in a flying lap.

To be honest, I had hoped to be a bit closer to the pole - he admits - but in the end, the qualifying session did not go too badly. Why do I say that? In FP4 I did not have a good feeling on my Ducati and in those conditions you cannot be fast. But then in qualifying, I realised a few things in the first outing and that let me do a good time in the second one.

For Andrea, it is still anybody’s race and even making predictions after today is not simple.

The situation is not at all defined - he says - The Hondas are certainly competitive and you can say the same about Maverick, Valentino and Jorge but the actual potential on the track is still not entirely clear.

So he needs to wait and, above all, manage to take full advantage of the data collected today.

Because tyre choice will make a big difference, as will the strategy we decide to implement - Dovi explains - The race could go in many different directions because a lot of riders showed today that they can be fast for one lap, but doing that for 23 is a different story.”

One of the riders who astonished is obviously Rossi, on the front row after his injury.

Valentino surprised me. I expected him to be fast, but not that fast - Andrea confesses - Watching him ride, he seems to be in perfect form.
