SBK, Rea: another brick in the wall. I like being here and winning

Johnny is sure about his decision: "I'm pleased with Kawasaki's work; the third title? I want to win as many races as possible"

SBK: Rea: another brick in the wall. I like being here and winning

Such obvious domination as to appear dull: it took Jonathan Rea just half a lap to wave goodbye to his rivals at Portimao and, having led front start to finish, the Northern Irishman simply killed the race, running away with yet another victory.

At the very track where Johnny made his Superbike debut with the Honda in 2008, the two-time champion scored win number 47, his tenth of the season, which brings his SBK podium total to 107: “I have incredible feeling when I race here - reveals ‘the cannibal’ - the bike was working really well and after making a good start I pushed as hard as I could, I just had to find the rhythm and then manage my race. Today it was as if my ZX0RR was on rails and, when the grip dropped off, I compensated with my riding style”.

A third title is almost yours…

“Everything is going in that direction, I can say that I've added another brick to the wall today, though I'm really sorry about Sykes' injuryt. I'm not focused on the final championship result, my goal is still to win as many races as possible. I'll continue to try”.

In the meantime, there is a rumour that Rea is in contact with the Suzuki Ecstar team, competing in MotoGP with Iannone and Rins. When we ask him about it, Johnny is quick to reply: "I don't want to comment-  he doesn't confirm or deny it - I have a contract with Kawasaki in Superbike for the 2018 season, I'm pleased with the work my team is doing, I like being here and winning here. I'm pleased with my position and with the fact I have a winning bike”.
