MotoGP: Lorenzo: I'll help Dovizioso, but not in Misano

A selfish Lorenzo who would rather win a race than help Dovizioso in his battle for the title: this is the image that some in the press have tried to portray of the Spaniard. And so, after the qualifiers n Misano, besides commenting on his performance, Jorge must also defend himself against certain attacks.

And he does so in no uncertain terms: “The words that were printed are totally false. To the contrary, I am the first to say that if in Sepang or Valencia I can help Andrea, then I will. I know how important the title would be for Ducati and I won’t draw back. However, there are still 6 races left in the season, not 2, and if I have the chance to win, I will battle even against Dovizioso.”

With the controversy put to bed, we can finally talk sports and comment on the 5th spot on the starting grid that Lorenzo earned in Misano.

The position is not fantastic, but I am very happy with my sensations on the bike - the Majorcan explains - In FP4 we made a change to the bike and our times dropped a half a second. I was the first to be surprised. That let me push in qualifying.

In that session, however, not everything went according to plan.

I did not feel good with the soft tyre on the rear, but when I put on the medium it was the opposite - he reveals - It is significant that I was the only rider who did his time with the hardest tyre. That means that in the race I will be able to be very fast.”

If it does not rain, Lorenzo is confident of being in the game.

There are 5 or 6 of us with a similar pace. On paper, it could be a race like the one at Silverstone with a group of riders in the lead - his prediction - Until FP4, Marquez seemed to have a little something more, but then we got close. The important thing will be not to lose contact with the leaders like I did in England.

And if it is a wet race?

All the hard work we have done up to now will have been for nothing - came the answer - I remember the wet race here in Misano in 2014 and there were a lot of crashes, but they have resurfaced the track so there should be more grip now. It certainly will not be easy to set up the bike and adapt to the new conditions in a short period of time, but the last time in the wet I was fast.”
