MotoGP: Petrucci 'hot' in Misano: I'm 1st with a fever

Danilo Petrucci has Misano fever however, it is not a metaphoric illness, but a very real one that kept the Italian up all night and taking aspirin. But it did not stop him once he was in the saddle of his Ducati and the team Pramac rider can celebrate the first day of his home round.

If these are the results, I’ll sleep with the window open tonight and try to get sick every Thursday - Danilo jokes - But I’m not in perfect shape. I only got a few hours of rest and I was worried before going out on the track.”

His doubts, however, vanished in front of the stopwatch and Petrucci admits that he was even astonished.

After Silverstone, a GP where I struggled a lot, I wanted to start well and I succeeded - he explains - Despite the fact that we tested here a long time ago, in July, and with different tyres, I felt like I was in a good situation straight away. But I’m surprised I finished in front of the rest. The bike is still not perfect and I thought that Marquez would have been faster.”

Instead, things went differently and Danilo can begin to think about the qualifiers tomorrow.

Pole position? I would need a perfect lap because we are all very close. Getting it would repay me for that 2nd place that they took from me at Mugello, though”, he recalls the penalty for having gone off track in the GP of Italy.

Qualifiers aside, Petrucci also wants to work in view of the race because there are still some rough edges to smooth out.

The times today are destined to drop and it seems to me that Marquez, Viñales and Dovizioso have something more than me - he admits - In spite of everything, I was consistently in the top spots and that is the positive aspect.”

The Pramac rider is also using the new fairing now that he received a second one for his home GP.

The bike behaves differently. It is definitely more stable, but also heavier in the direction changes. Here in Misano you especially notice in the first sector of the track - he says - Anyway, the pros outweigh the cons and I will keep using it.”
