MotoGP: Lorenzo: The best race since I've been with Ducati

You read correctly: “It was the best race since I’ve been with Ducati.” Jorge Lorenzo prefers not using his fifth place at Silverstone as a gauge, but he rather focuses on the progress made throughout the weekend, particularly on his race pace. In fact, the Spaniard was three seconds behind his teammate at the finish, a gap that boosts his confidence.

The final position may not be extraordinary – the Majorcan admitted – but I think that I have made great progress, reducing the gap behind the winner. I did not think I’d be able to maintain this pace in the race – he revealed – since yesterday I was a second slower, but today I managed to lose a few tenths, being faster at some points.”

His race was decided in the early stages when he lost contact with the group made up of Marquez, Dovizioso, Crutchlow and Viñales.

“Unfortunately, in the early laps I struggled to maintain the pace of the riders ahead of me – he recalled – Maybe I was being too conservative, so it became impossible to close the gap. For me, the Silverstone race is still the best since I’ve been with Ducati – he emphasised – because I demonstrated that I am fast on a track where I initially struggled with the tyres.”

Then Lorenzo congratulates his teammate on the win and already looks toward the next race.

“Dovi was extraordinary. He is competitive on every track, but he also has a lot of experience. Adapting to the Ducati straight away is not simple – he reminded – It takes time, but now I can say that it has become simpler and in the future it will be even better. The next race is Misano and I’ll try to battle for the podium, given the results of the tests.”

At Silverstone, Dovizioso took the Championship lead, so we wonder whether or not Jorge will try to help the Italian make his dream come true.

“We haven’t spoken about that – number 99 explained – since there are still a lot of races left, but I think that in the future we will have to evaluate it. Of course, if I have the chance to win, I will have a go.”
