He came to Silverstone with the goal of turning the page after the bitterness of the Red Bull Ring, but instead, the ambitions of Jonas Folger evaporated just as they had begun to take hold. A nightmarish day for the German rider who ended up in the gravel in the last session before the race. A crash at no less than 328 Km/h with his Yamaha that flew into the barriers like a missile.

Moments of genuine fear went by on the track following the news that everyone awaited – that the German had not suffered any fractures: “At the beginning of the session I had a few problems with the brakes – the team Tech 3 rider told Speedweek – Then, when I got to that section, I tried to squeeze the lever three times but nothing happened and I crashed.”

And to think that after the impact, the rider wanted to get back on the track, but then he had to rethink things: “Initially I wanted to race with the adrenaline I had flowing – he recalled – Then, after about a half hour, I began to have a headache and feel agitated, so I decided that racing was out of the question.”

Folger’s accident is reminiscent of episodes that we have seen already in the past. For more information, ask Eddie Lawson, betrayed by the brakes in 1990 at Laguna Seca during practice for the GP. On that occasion, the rider suffered a fracture to his right heel that involved the joint.

And let’s not forget about Race 1 this year at the Imola Superbike round, when Eugene Laverty ended up in the gravel with his Aprilia that went up in flames. For him, it was just a few bruises and nothing more.
