MotoGP: Dovizioso: "A difficult day, but tomorrow I'll try to win"

Second row with the sixth best time today at Silverstone for Andrea Dovizioso, just behind the Desmosedici GP ridden by his teammate Jorge Lorenzo, 173 thousandths faster than the Italian.

Dovizioso analyses his difficult work on the Ducati after free practice and qualifying: “Today was a rather difficult day - Andrea explains - because we were able to confirm that the hard tyre we tried yesterday is not the right solution, so we chose another and we lost time finding the setup we needed. Plus, the wet track this morning complicated our work today, significantly increasing the times in our garage.”

But Andrea sees the positive aspects of his English Saturday…

All told, in the fourth session we all took a leap forward. Our race pace is not bad, but we are missing something, so I am not 100% happy. We have good speed. Our goal was to start from the first two rows and we succeeded, plus the warm up tomorrow morning will be used entirely to try to improve.

Who will be out front battling for the win tomorrow?

It is not easy to understand our rivals’ race pace, but I can say that Crutchlow, Marquez and the two factory Yamahas will be very fast. Tyre wear here is important. The physical energy required during the Grand Prix will take its toll. Anything can happen, so we will try to improve in the morning because we can also make a play for the race.”

Thinking of the championship, will you attack constantly or will you watch to see what moves Marquez makes?

There are still a lot of races left, so I think it is premature to think about the championship. However, even this season the ‘zeros’ weigh heavily, so it is always important to try to bring points home for the standings. If I feel at ease astride the Desmosedici after warm up then I’ll try to attack tomorrow in the race. But only in the race can you really tell what sensations you have and if it is worth taking a risk to stay ahead and finish on the podium. If I have the chance, I’ll try to win.”
