Ducati has never won at Silverstone and Andrea Dovizioso has every intention of updating the statistics this weekend, even more so after his extraordinary win two weeks ago on the Red Bull Ring, snatching the victory from Marquez on the last turn.
However, the Italian avoids thinking about the past, because the only thing on his mind is the British round: “After the win in Austria, I am very pleased to be back on the track at Silverstone – he explained – The English circuit is fantastic, but it will definitely be a demanding weekend because of the weather conditions, always unpredictable, and because of the track, full of dips that make everything even more difficult.”
The test held on Sunday at Misano has in any case given the Borgo Panigale rider confidence: “It was a very important day – he added - We managed to do a few tests that will be useful both for Silverstone and for the San Marino GP in mid-September.”
If the Reds have never won in Northamptonshire, the opposite is true of Jorge Lorenzo, who can boast three victories. The Majorcan is going to this round after his fourth place finish two weeks ago: “The last two races gave me more confidence – the Majorcan revealed – We have improved in many aspects, so the goal for Silverstone is to continue this positive trend and manage to be among the best from Friday practice.”
The track is one that the number 99 rider likes, but Jorge cautions: “One of the key factors for the race will be the weather – he pointed out – It is always very unstable in England, but our bike has shown that it can be competitive both in the wet and in dry weather conditions. The test on Tuesday at Misano was very positive and it confirmed that we are working in the right direction – he added – I turned almost 100 laps and now I am able to ride my Desmosedici in a more and more natural way."
