SBK, Giugliano: the retirement? Right when I was starting to be fast

Bradl: "it couldn't have gone any worse, I'd have only been able to complete a few laps if I'd tried to race"

SBK: Giugliano: the retirement? Right when I was starting to be fast

A black Sunday at the Lausitzring in the Honda camp. The first strike came just before race 1, when Stefan Bradl was forced to wave the white flag, due to an elbow contusion suffered in a crash during FP2. A pill that was too bitter for the local rider to swallow.

No doubt it’s been an unlucky weekend so far. After hitting my elbow hard in yesterday’s FP2 crash, this morning I tried to ride but it could only do a few laps before the pain got too intense and I had very limited movement in the joint. That’s why I had to make the decision of not racing today. I will get some more treatment later at Clinica Mobile in order to get in better shape for tomorrow and try to race."

What to say about Davide Giugliano, who had to retire while lying fifteenth due to a technical problem with the Fireblade SP2. And to think that at the start of the race the Roman had tried to reach the top ten, despite the considerable gap.

"It was a good race for as long as it lasted. At the beginning, it was hard for me to be aggressive then when the pack opened up a bit, I was able to ride more like I wanted to and my pace improved. My lap times were quite interesting, too, as I was quicker than during the rest of the weekend."

The Honda let him down at the critical moment.

"It was a shame - commented a discouraged Giugliano - we were forced to retire with a technical issue right when I was starting to go faster. The team is now trying to understand what happened in order to be ready for race 2."
