SBK: Rain takes centre stage, Sykes improves, Bradl demolishes the Honda

An afternoon to forget for Superbike. A second session thrown away, as a result of heavy rain that ruined the plans of teams and riders alike. FP2 was stopped for about an hour due to rain, when there were still 35 minutes on the clock, only resuming at 16:26 local time.

Only four riders were able to improve on their times, starting with Tom Sykes. The Kawasaki lowered his time by a further two tenths, stopping the clock on 1’37”132, thus closing just over three tenths ahead of Johnny Rea (+0.332).

Before the rain, Marco Melandri also took a significant step forward (+0.686), moving up to fifth place behind the Aprilia of Lorenzo Savadori. In the afternoon there was a moment of fear when Stefan Bradl crashed, practically destroying his Honda. Luckily the German rider was not seriously hurt, having been checked over at the medical centre post-crash.  Having suffered a contusion to the left elbow, he will see doctors once again tomorrow morning. At the end of the day, he's only twelfth, while Davide Giugliano finished six positions further back (+2.486), also forced to settle for his morning's best time.

As well as Sykes and Melandri, Michael van der Mark also improved (+1.369), but the Dutchman is still eleventh, pushed outside of the top ten by just 0.071 by team-mate Lowes. Raffaele De Rosa also improves, fifteenth and more than two seconds from the front. The best placed BMW is therefore Markus Reiterberger, who finishes seventh thanks to his best time of the morning.
