MotoGP: Viñales resigned: I can't battle for the championship like this

Maverick Viñales’ face at the end of the race is practically resigned because the Spaniard is unable to explain this sixth place on the Red Bull Ring. A result that is the equivalent of a loss, since Marquez now has an even bigger gap in the championship standings and a comeback will be an uphill battle.

From the beginning of the race I struggled with grip – he commented – Unfortunately, when there is too little, the bike doesn’t work. We are unable to find the right confidence, much less work to sort this situation. This is the first time that I saw the tyre slipping.

The hard tyre on the rear betrayed Viñales, who was never able to be competitive. In certain aspects, the troubles from Barcelona seemed to be back.

I think that these difficulties stem from the fine tuning –Maverick revealed – Apparently we are doing something wrong, but I can’t figure out where. Finishing sixth like today, I certainly can’t battle for the Championship since everything gets more difficult.

However, the Yamaha rider has absolutely no intention of throwing in the towel.

What counts is motivation and at the same time continuing our work – he said – Maybe we need to focus more on the frame and make some changes. This afternoon, staying behind Pedrosa, I could see how much the Honda gains in acceleration compared to the M1.”

So Viñales asks for help from his team because he has already taken steps forward.

“I changed my style and adapted for the Yamaha – he reminded – Now I can no longer be as aggressive as I once was, especially in braking. All that’s left is to work and focus on the next race in Silverstone, where I can put in my own contribution.”
