After an aggressive start form the front row, Jorge Lorenzo led the race for the first 8 laps and then the double and treacherous attack arrived from Marquez and Dovizioso who took him out of the lead in one blow and shortly afterwards, the number 99 rider also had to give up third place to Dani Pedrosa, finishing the Grand Prix of Austria in fourth place.

The problems for the Ducati rider arrived rather quickly: “On the third lap, I had to change the engine map manually - Jorge reveals - to give less fuel to the engine and to lower the rpm. Today the bike consumed a lot of fuel, so much that I did the honour lap almost with a dry tank – there were just 60 milligrams of petrol left.

But that was not the only obstacle you had to face…

“Exactly. Tyre wear also limited me. The rear tyre was quite worn on the right side and I struggled more than Dovizioso in the second part of the race. I don’t know if the tyre choice made the difference. I opted for the hard and I can’t say whether or not I would have been faster with the soft.”

Do you think this was your best race of the season or do you prefer the Jerez round?

“It’s true, in Jerez I was on the podium with a nice third place finish, but in Spain I had a gap of more than 14 seconds. Today, on the other hand, I got close to Pedrosa and was only about 6 and a half seconds from the winner. I consider this to be my best race of the entire season. Nevertheless, I am never happy with fourth place.”

For the third time this year, the win went to your teammate…

Dovi did a good job. He was fast and deserved the win. This is a great result for Andrea, but he has much more experience than I do with the Desmosedici, especially at the time of the race when you need to manage the tyres.

Andrea said that your presence gives him more motivation and makes him go faster…

“Oh, definitely! But I hope that soon it will not be like that anymore (he laughs).”

Looking at the race objectively, what do you think of your rivals?

“Marquez is the only one who always has a go and today he showed it on the last lap with Dovizioso. He did not succeed, but Marc tries to win every race and that is what makes him different from the others, who are more ‘calculating’ and measured. As for the teams, there are still a lot of races left and we still have not seen the teamwork.”
