It may seem strange, but in a certain sense, Danilo Petrucci hopes that he found a faulty tyre in FP2. Because in that case, he would have the answers that he is struggling to find right now. In the morning he was 7th, whereas in the afternoon, he slipped all the way down to 14th, one less in the combined standings.
“We must have made a wrong move - he tries to find an explanation - We actually changed something on the bike, but we did not think that the change would have been able to make the bike that much worse. We need to analyse the data carefully.”
Also because, right up to the time attack, things had gone well for the Pramac rider.
“In the morning, I was pleased with my sensations and in the afternoon too on used tyres. I was able to maintain a good pace - he explains - But when I switched to the new soft tyres… they seemed used. I did not expect to struggle so much. All told, if we were to find out that a tyre had created the problem, we would have an answer.”
In any case, Danilo knows that he still needs to improve.
“Dovizioso is making the difference and I want to see his data to understand how he managed” he admits.
Petrucci also clarified his thoughts on the new fairing, in the ‘triplane’ version.
“Even if the effects are not the same as last year with the winglets, I felt better with them here - he says - They provide some small benefits in braking, but I am struggling a bit more in acceleration.”
