MotoGP: Marquez: the wings? we're focusing on electronics for Austria

Marc Marquez hoped to have it all sewn up during Monday's test at Brno, but Rossi put paid to his plans, going one better. The Spaniard is not worried though, with his mind already on the Austria race in less than a week's time. His Honda also featured the 'winged' fairing during the test.

I had good confidence with the bike. We tried different things to improve it, including the setting ahead of Austria and I'm pleased. We focused on the front tyre and the electronics– he continued - taking a step forward in terms of performance”.

The Red Bull Ring round will put his Honda to the test, with its long straights. His rivals have worked on new fairings in this regard.

“Without the wings we have a few ideas and need to understand what to do– said Marquez - we've seen some teams go down one path, while I have tried to work on the electronics, finding good stability. It will be fundamental to find the right compromise for the coming weekend”.

Marc then touches on the move that allowed him to win the race, or rather changing bike early on.

“I think I was strong there – he comments -  the flag to flag is a particular thing we work on, but you need to be careful as there's a risk of crashing. I might make a mistake there too one day”.

Many ask if he did it on purpose, falling back behind other riders before pulling in.

“It wasn't like that – he states– during the first lap I tried to push, while on lap two I came in ahead of time. We can say that it all went well”.

During the bike change, Iannone crashed. March too has something to say in terms of safety.

I think the flag to flag is an important moment of the race, but we need to improve the safety. I think we need an extra mechanic like in Formula 1, who tells the rider when to go”.

Pedrosa: "Honda and I have clear ideas on what we need at the Red Bull Ring for next weekend"

While Marc Marquez tested the 'winged' fairing, Dani Pedrosa chose not to. The Spaniard, second in Sunday's race, already used that fairing during the July test, so preferred to concentrate on other aspects.

“we focused on the bike set-up – said #26 - working on the mapping and the fork. I think there was some improvement but we need to wait for the next race to have a clear picture. We know we we need for Austria”.

Dani is feeling confident at the end of testing.

“It's been a positive day – he confirms – I was also able use the tyres we'll have at Misano and a new front one. In Austria we'll start with a base set-up”.

Dani also has something to say about the flag to flag.

For the riders and team it's complicated and dangerous – he warns - especially from dry to wet. We need to improve. The ideal situation would be to have alternated MotoGP and Moto2 garages along the pitlane. So there's more space. And then try to further limit the speed”.
