MotoGP, Petrucci: the new fairing? we've complicated things

"it was a mistake to use it in FP3, it could have helped if we'd taken things slowly. Happier with 8th place than the front rows at the last GPs"

MotoGP: Petrucci: the new fairing? we've complicated things

After two solid practices, Danilo Petrucci was confident yesterday but Saturday at Brno brought some nasty surprises. Luckily, the Pramac rider was able to limit the damage and take a place on row three, which up until FP4 seemed like an impossibility.

It was a mistake to use the new fairing in FP3 - he admits - I'll explain, we made our lives complicated because we didn't change the bike's set-up and so it didn't work. The fairing brought advantages at Misano and could have done the same here, but it takes time to test it. We put it in for the all-important FP3 and missed out on direct entry to Q2”.

For this reason, Danilo have decided to put it to one side for now.

We'll use it again in Austria, but tomorrow we'll use the standard version - he explains - I'm pleased in the end, at the last races I've started out front but I'm more pleased with this 8th place because things were looking really bad. I was able to reach Q2 and then make a good lap”.

Now there are worries about the weather.

We suffer in the heat, I realised this in FP4. I'm lacking grip at the rear when at an angle, it's not a new problem but we need to fix it.It's partly due to my aggressive riding style, so I have to work to keep calm”.

Rain could turn it into a different kind of race for Danilo…

In the dry it will be tough to fight for the podium, but if conditions are mixed - he's thinking about a flag-to-flag - then I'd be ready to take more risks than those fighting for the title”.
