MotoGP: The crew chiefs rating: Petrucci passes, Redding to resit

The Octo Pramac Racing team recently completed a private test session at Misano. While Danilo Petrucci continued to develop his Ducati Desmosedici GP, working on feeling ahead of the upcoming races, Scott Redding and his team focused on performance, so as to be ready when the season resumes in early August at the Brno track but particularly for the San Marino Grand Prix taking place in early September.

Now that the first part of the season has run its course, it's time for an evaluation. Daniele Romagnoli and Cristhian Pupulin, the respective crew chiefs to Danilo Petrucci and Scott Redding, have rated the first part of the season and provided some insight into the future.

Let's start with Romagnoli's report.

“The first part of the season has gone well and has exceeded all of our expectations. Mugello was a huge turning point that gave us great satisfaction. If we think about what we did at Mugello and Assen and the qualifying sessions at Barcelona and Sachsenring, I will give a good rating of 8 - comments Petrucci's crew chief - It was really satisfying to reach the podium in Mugello with an Italian rider but we could have done more. We're try in the second part of the season."

There are still nine races to run and expectations are high.

For the second part of the season we should try to consolidate what we have done so far, because we are happy, we have found a good balance with the bike and a good set up. The bike is responding well, moreover we have improved as a team as has Danilo. However we now need to try and consolidate our recent performance and continue to improve. We aim to obtain other podiums, front row starts, a pole position. But the dream would be to achieve a win”.

Pupulin, alongside Redding in the garage, is not so satisfied.

"I'd give this first half of the season a rating of 5.5 - Pupulin doesn't hide the fact there have been difficulties - We have obtained great results during free practice and have managed to be fast but we haven't been able to translate that kind of performance into the race for various reasons. We've struggled over race distance and haven't managed to get the best feeling that could have helped Scott to make important steps forward. Some mistakes during the races have perhaps penalised him, so at the moment we are not getting the kind of result that we actually deserve, considering our potential. For this reason, the overall evaluation is slightly negative."

There is still time to turn things around though...

“Now we have to make a step forward, both in terms of performance but particularly the consistency of this performance - adds Pupulin - We need to do something that can bring a higher rating by the end of the season. I'd like to close with a 7."
