MotoGP: Lorenzo: the work has paid off

Wet conditions haven't exactly been Jorge Lorenzo's strong point recently, but it seems that things are changing in Saxony. The Spaniard gained direct access to Q2 in the wet, and in the afternoon he closed sixth, which augers well ahead of tomorrow's race: “I've always said that I can do well with the Ducati in the wet and today has confirmed this. I struggle a little more when it's very well, as I can't stop the bike as I want to, but in normal wet conditions I'm competitive”.

It's a well known fact that it's tough to pass at the Sachsenring and so Jorge realises how valuable his qualifying position is.

“I'm pleased with my position - continues the Spaniard - because the track is narrow. This morning we drastically changed some aspects of the set-up and this helped me to ride with my usual style, as well as giving me more confidence at the front. There are still things to improve, such as using the gas in order to make less use of traction control. I think we've taken a direction that could help us in the future anyway”.

Now his thoughts turn to the race, and the possibility of having to deal with various conditions throughout the day.

“It would be interesting to have a dry warm-up, in order to continuing working on my riding style. Then it's essential to start the race well - the Hondas are very fast here, especially in terms of race pace, while I think I can definitely fight with the second group. If it's a wet race, anything could happen. The quantity of water on track would be important, as would staying upright all the way to the line. In any case, tyre choice will be key, and managing consumption for as many laps as possible".
