After starting from the sixteenth spot on the grid, Andrea Iannone made a nice comeback that brought him to duel in the group of riders just behind the podium positions made up of Redding, Bautista, Viñales and Dovizioso. The English rider and the Spaniard did not finish the race and the number 4 Ducati finished fifth, whereas the team Suzuki Ecstar rider had to pull in the oars, overtaken by Crutchlow, Miller, Abraham and Baz.
So it was ninth place in the end for the Italian, 37 seconds behind Rossi’s victory: “I started rather well. I am truly pleased with the first part of my race - Andrea commented - I was very aggressive and fast and I made up several positions. I used a different setup in the race and for about 20 laps I was fast and consistent, putting very similar times on the sheets to the frontrunners and for us this is a very positive point.”
However, after the nice first part of the race, the problems arrived...
“Yes, because the tyres deteriorated suddenly about 7 or 8 laps from the end - Iannone explained - and everything became more difficult. It was really hard to manage the situation because I could not maintain the pace I had in the early laps.”
How did your Suzuki perform?
“With worn tyres, the GSX-RR got twitchy, uncontrollable. My Suzuki began to move around a lot after the tyres deteriorated. I tried to battle to the end, but at a certain point my arm locked up for two laps and I went very slowly. I was no longer able to hold the bike.”
