Andrea Iannone’s face at the end of this first day in Assen leaves little to the imagination. There is great disappointment about what happened in the second free practice session, when his Suzuki left him stranded. So, after his sixth place time this morning, he is out of the top ten in FP2 and at risk of having to go through Q1 tomorrow due to the risk of rain.

“I can say that this morning went rather well – the Italian rider revealed – despite lacking a bit of confidence. We were about two to three tenths behind Petrucci – he recounted – whereas in the afternoon, the other bike stopped on the track.”

What exactly happened?

We have not figured out what the problem was. We need to take the bike apart and investigate what happened. I think that with the other bike I could have improved on the FP1 performance.”

Iannone is heartbroken and without a solution, because the problem is a serious one.

“It is a big mess – he commented – This morning I was able to start well and then these problems happened. It is really a pain in the butt and at the same time frustrating – he emphasized without beating around the bush – I arrived here charged up and ready to go and then these things happen, keeping me from riding the way I want to, among other things.”

And to think that Assen is one of the tracks that should be well-suited to the Suzuki.

When you brake the problem is always there – he analysed – In FP1 we started with the bike we used in Barcelona and then switched to the one with the new frame and setup, but we were unable to turn even one lap. We have a few things to sort.
